More background work

Next came masking out the trees. I was trying to keep as light a touch with my brush as possible so it wouldn't lift up the paint underneath. For the most part I managed but after I took off the masking fluid I did have to go over with a bit of water to smooth out the white patches on the trees.
The background is the same cling film technique I'd tried before with indigo and for the most part I'm happy with it, all those tests made the most unpredictable stage of the painting work out fine. Though you can see where it crept under the protective layer of cling film on her head and shoulder.
One of the warnings I'd heard with masking  fluid is not to leave it on the paper for too long and I was cutting it a bit close.... at that point I still had the masking fluid protecting her and then I had to wait for the trees' masking fluid to dry and then the cling film patterns to overnight.... ended up getting up extra early just to peal the masking fluid off.

I masked out the edges of the front panel on her skirt as well as the center of the flowers on it, then it was a pretty basic transition from naples yellow to permanent magenta.
