It's been
a while since I posted huh? Sorry about that, at first I was too ill again,
then too busy catching up with things and then to be honest I was just out of
the habit and kept forgetting about it. I've also started job hunting again, as
much as I want to I really shouldn't be focusing on my art or blog right now…great
fun.
So what
I've been up too...I finished the first page of the Terrier Studios comic, I'll
probably post about that next since I have the permission, so I'll leave
talking about it till then.
I've been doing quite a few granulation tests, haven't had many useful
results without using granulation fluid and I've got very little of it left
now. Still I have enough to do a few more test and it goes a long way. I'll
talk about that more once I finish those tests.
I wasn’t completely happy with how my last black and gold painting came out
so I did this one, greatly cutting down on the amount of gold used. I like the overall
effect, I like the granulated background...I think in general it could have
done with more polish and time spent on it.
I rushed
her anatomy since it was meant to just be a quick little test.... which is a
really bad practice I need to get out of. The good thing about little paintings
is I can do them faster and thus get better at anatomy faster...if I bother to
do so, and I really need to.
I'm also
not completely happy about the gold.... It doesn't quite fit in with
everything. I should have made it fit in with the patterns of the granulation
more but instead I'd put it down first ten tried to granulate around it...then
just kept going back and forth between the gold and the graphite.
I originally did this on a different type of paper.... I'm
glad I switched it, for one my drawing is so much better in the new version.
Though the reason I changed it was because I simply couldn't get a good
gradient on the shiny gloss paper I'd been testing it out on so far. Amazing
for granulation, terrible for actual painting. Maybe I should go back and edit my old post about it.....
So in the end I decided to use really cheap watercolour
paper I bought from the Works, it's pretty bad but I needed something to do
watercolour tests on that wasn't my good paper. Also, it turns out it works
better for this than my good paper does... Maybe because it's cold pressed, not
sure.
