The finished painting of Blodeuwedd. To be honest I'm not quite sure what I think of
this one.
On the technical side yeh I'm mostly happy with
her, one of her arms is a bit funny but other than that technically I
did well enough. Her face is looking good and the whole leaf/ hair
printing random-ness in the background turned out really well, I'm
really happy with how it merges with the white of the background.
It's a useful technique and I'll definitely use it again.
On the other hand I'm just not...interested in
her.
I think this is mostly her actual character
design, it's very safe and very traditional fantasy. I really wish
I'd made the owl aspect of her more than just a mask. I think I could
have done far better with more time actually thinking one her design.
It's also partly the colours. I think I made a big
mistake at the start trying to accurately get the colours of each
flower and the tawny owl, I think I should have focused on having
colours that worked together more and just let some of the flowers be
slightly off....but I'm also unconfident in painting flowers, I don't
know if I could handle risking people mistaking them just because I
did them in slightly the wrong colours.
Part of it might also be a stylistic choice, she's
just simply not in the style I like. Maybe the whole think would be
more to my tastes if it was paler in colour, it's very mid-tones.
I also had serious problems removing her from the
board, paint had leaked underneath and stuck the paper down. I've
done a whole pile of tape tests so hopefully in the future it won't
happen again.
People will probably really like this one...that
keeps happening to the ones I don't like.
