Faebruary: Bean Nighe & Caoineag

So I know it's already in the middle of February and I've not mentioned it yet but I'm doing Faebruary this year. Basically either drawing or reading something with fairies in it each day, Though having said that I'm more planning to get enough fairies drawn to make a Neonmob card series out of it so some will be much higher quality than others.

I've also decided to do Scottish fairies and here's the thing.... they don't wear tutus, they rarely have wings and nearly all of them want to drown you and then maybe eat you.

It's been really hard to even find a few friendly ones to include. Also I know we're a very soggy island but the shear amount of death by water fairies in comparison to the rest is a little bit insane.

So here are the first two: The Bean Nighe and the Caoineag.

So I suppose you could say they're both a type of Banshee. Another recurring theme in Scottish Fairies is them acting as omens of death. So I decided to include two of them and skip over the more well-known Banshee.

The Bean Nighe can be found at the side of streams or pools washing away the blood from the clothing of those about to die. It sometimes is possible to convince her to tell you who's clothing it is she's washing or even get her to stop washing and prevent the death.
Beyond that tales about her vary a lot, there's stories all over Scotland.

The Caoineag can also be found near water, most often waterfalls. Each Caoineag watches over a specific clan, wailing and keening when they foresaw a clan member's death. There's tales of those who heed the Caoineag's cries being able to leave before a massacre, escaping the terrible fate of those that remained.
